NEW YORK — Television personality Wendy Williams shocked onlookers and fans alike during a rare public sighting in Manhattan, stepping out for the first time since February amid an ongoing, highly contested court-ordered guardianship case.
The 62-year-old former daytime talk show host was walking through the city streets when approached by a reporter inquiring about her well-being. Accompanied by a male companion, Williams delivered an emotional plea, stating clearly, “I want out!” before entering a nearby building.
The public appearance marks a rare moment in the spotlight for Williams, who was placed under a legal conservatorship in May 2002. The intervention was initiated following concerns raised by Wells Fargo in a letter to a New York Supreme Court judge, which characterized her as an incapacitated individual requiring temporary oversight to properly manage her affairs. Attorney Sabrina E. Morrissey was subsequently appointed as her legal guardian.
Williams has consistently voiced fierce opposition to the legal arrangement. In prior interviews with national media outlets, she expressed deep frustration over losing control of her financial accounts, emphasizing her desire to reclaim access to the wealth accumulated throughout her decades-long career.
The media icon has faced significant health battles in recent years, including a public diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia in 2023 and an ongoing battle with Graves’ disease, which initially forced her step away from The Wendy Williams Show in 2020.
