Nigerian fintech startup Rank has introduced three community-powered financial products, Money Circles, Tribe and Perks, designed to expand access to zero-interest capital for individuals, entrepreneurs and small businesses.
The Y Combinator-backed company, formerly known as Moni, unveiled the products following its November 2025 acquisition of AjoMoney and Zazzau Microfinance Bank, now renamed Rank Microfinance Bank.
ValidViewNetwork gathered that Money Circles digitises the rotating-savings model long practised through Nigeria’s Ajo and Esusu systems, where members contribute regularly and take turns receiving the pooled fund.
Tribe targets groups that already manage money together, such as families and cooperatives, while Perks lets employers offer salary-backed loans and workplace savings circles with automatic payroll deductions.
Old trust, new rails, and a market with room to grow
Rank Chief Executive Femi Iromini has described the company’s mission as converting social capital into financial capital.
A pilot phase involving 10,000 users reportedly disbursed ₦16 billion, backed by treasury bills and money-market instruments returning as much as 23 per cent, figures the company is now betting can scale nationally through its acquired microfinance licence.
The launch lands inside a Nigerian startup market that raised $113.7 million in June 2026 alone, spread across fintech, logistics, healthtech and AI tools, according to sector trackers, even as investors increasingly demand proof of revenue and retention over pitch-deck promise.
Rank’s advantage is structural rather than novel; it is not asking Nigerians to trust a new financial habit, only to move a habit millions already practise, informally, onto a platform with a banking licence behind it, which may prove a faster path to adoption than any purely digital-first competitor.
