The controversy surrounding the alleged “fake agency” operating within the nation’s seat of power has deepened, with the National Coordinator of the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office, George Nwabueze, vehemently firing back at fraud allegations.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission recently exposed the outfit as a fictitious federal agency illegally functioning within the premises of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Following the uncovering, President Bola Tinubu ordered the immediate arrest of Nwabueze and the suspension of three permanent secretaries in the OSGF over alleged administrative complicity.
A Web of Official Claims Versus Fraud Probes
The anti-graft agency maintained that the outfit was uncovered during broader investigations into procedural weaknesses and the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. According to investigators, the clandestine body secured physical office space within the high-security OSGF complex without presidential authorization.
Furthermore, anti-corruption investigators alleged that the promoter operated under multiple aliases—including Prince George Buchi Nwabueze, George Nathan, and Hon. George Buchi Nwabueze—while establishing an elaborate structure featuring regional and state coordinators across the country.
The Defense: Appointment Letters and State Endorsements
In staunch defiance of the ICPC’s findings, Nwabueze released documents—including an appointment letter dated October 3, 2025—purportedly issued and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Political and Economic Affairs Office, Nadungu Gagare. The letter conveyed a five-year tenure approval starting from July 2025 to steer indigenous promotional initiatives, economic summits, and international trade expos.
Backing his operational legitimacy, Nwabueze pointed to active state-level collaborations, highlighting how entities like the Nasarawa State government reportedly domesticated the initiative and integrated it into their regional fiscal budgeting. Proponents argued that the initiative had actively championed foreign direct investment and local enterprise visibility on global platforms.
Institutional Silence and Fallout
Despite the defensive stance mounted through professional networks and digital portfolios, physical infrastructure linked to the project has reportedly remained shuttered for months pending administrative reviews. Spokespersons for the OSGF have declined immediate verbal comments, directing formal inquiries through administrative channels as security agencies weigh the next steps regarding the unfolding high-level public service breach.
