ValidViewNetwork is set to host the third edition of its Monthly Global Discourse on Sunday, August 30, 2026, bringing together distinguished voices to examine the thin line between legitimate national criticism and the harmful demarketing of Nigeria.
The virtual discourse, scheduled for 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. WAT, is themed “Truth or Treason? Navigating the Thin Line Between National Critique and National Demarketing.”
The edition will feature Ambassador Dr. Yemi Farounbi, OON, and Prof. Samaila Mande as Distinguished Discussants.
Why the Discourse Matters
The conversation comes at a critical time when Nigerians continue to debate how the country should confront its challenges while protecting its image, interests and reputation before the international community.
The third edition will examine whether exposing Nigeria’s problems amounts to responsible national criticism or contributes to negative narratives that damage the country’s global standing.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the discourse will also consider the responsibility of citizens, media professionals, public officials, academics and other stakeholders in shaping the narrative about Nigeria.
The discussion builds on the previous edition, which focused on “National Demarketing and the Nigerian Psyche: Resetting Nigeria’s Public Mindset.”
The latest edition takes the conversation further by examining the difficult boundary between speaking truth to power and damaging the national brand.
Distinguished Discussants
Ambassador Dr. Yemi Farounbi, OON, brings decades of experience across broadcasting, journalism and diplomacy. He began his broadcasting career with WNTV/WNBS and later worked with the Nigerian Television Authority before becoming Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.
He also served Nigeria as ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Cambodia. His extensive experience in media, public communication and diplomacy positions him to offer valuable insight into how national narratives are created and projected.
Prof. Samaila Mande brings an academic and institutional perspective to the conversation, drawing on his extensive experience in scholarship, administration and civic engagement.
His participation will add an intellectual dimension to the debate over national responsibility, public discourse and the consequences of how Nigeria’s challenges are communicated at home and abroad.
Together, the discussants are expected to provide complementary perspectives on one of the most difficult questions in contemporary national communication: When does criticism become demarketing?
Stakeholders Invited
Stakeholders across the media, government, diplomacy, academia, civil society, business, youth organisations and the general public are invited to join the conversation.
The platform also encourages Nigerians at home and abroad to participate, engage with the discussants and contribute their perspectives to the important national conversation.
