U.S. President Donald Trump has said American forces destroyed seven Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions continue to rise in the strategically vital waterway.
In a post shared Monday on Truth Social, Trump stated that the vessels—described as Iranian “fast boats”—were neutralised during an encounter involving U.S. forces operating in the area.
He alleged that Iran had fired at ships connected to an operation he referred to as “Project Freedom,” including a South Korean cargo vessel navigating the route.
“Iran has taken shots at unrelated nations in relation to ship movements under PROJECT FREEDOM, including a South Korean cargo ship,” Trump wrote, adding that it may be time for South Korea to participate in the mission.
Trump further claimed that the destruction of the seven boats represents a significant blow to Iran’s remaining naval presence in the region. He noted, however, that aside from the reported incident involving the South Korean vessel, no other ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz had suffered damage at the time.
He also announced that senior U.S. officials, including Pete Hegseth and Dan Caine, are scheduled to provide further details during a press briefing on Tuesday morning.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global shipping route, and any escalation in the area continues to raise concerns over international security and the stability of global oil supplies.
