Nickelodeon Icon Christy Knowings Dead at 46 After Severe Asthma Attack

​LOS ANGELES — Tributes are pouring in across Hollywood following the death of actor and comedian Christy Knowings, best known as a breakout star of Nickelodeon’s iconic 1990s children’s sketch comedy series All That. She was 46.

​Knowings passed away on Tuesday at a Los Angeles-area hospital after her family made the heartbreaking decision to remove her from life support. Days earlier, on August 7, the performer suffered a severe asthma attack that cut off oxygen supply and left her with irreversible brain damage.

​Her aunt, Tyleah Joseph, broke the news on social media, which was later confirmed by her manager, Al Hill. Hill remembered her enduring dedication to the arts, telling Variety, “Christy was a multi-talented lady. Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work.”

​A Defining Era of Children’s Television

​Discovered initially through a Rosie O’Donnell-produced pilot titled And Now This, Knowings joined the ensemble cast of All That in 1997 for its fourth season. Often dubbed the “Saturday Night Live for kids,” the program was a monumental stepping stone for young comedic talent during Nickelodeon’s golden age.

​During her three-season run through 2000, Knowings anchored some of the show’s most memorable recurring segments. She cemented her comedic footprint playing characters such as Penny Lane, news anchor Brenda Stone on Channel 6 1/2 News, and Jessica in the popular Whateverrr!!! sketches alongside Amanda Bynes. She later returned to the franchise as a guest star for its 10th-anniversary special.

​Remembering a “Scene Stealer”

​Following news of her passing, former co-stars took to social media to mourn her loss.

​Kenan Thompson shared an emotional tribute, writing, “Man this one hit hard! Rest well Christy! Never could have imagined this day! Sending so much love to her family!!”

​Fellow cast member Josh Server remembered her vibrant energy on set, noting, “This is such devastating news. Christy was a light in every room and was such a kind soul. And Christy was an absolute scene stealer! Every time we performed she made everyone around her better.”

​Beyond her work on All That, Knowings shared the screen with her twin brother, actor Chris Knowings, appearing alongside him in three episodes of Sesame Street between 2008 and 2011. In 2020, she also ventured further into her passion for music, releasing an independent folk single titled To the World.

​Her death marks the second profound loss for the All That alumni community this year, following the tragic death of former cast member Kianna Underwood, who was killed in a Brooklyn hit-and-run accident in January.
