As Osun State prepares for its highly anticipated governorship election, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has drawn a hard line against unauthorized security groups. In an official directive issued from Force Headquarters in Abuja, the police have re-enforced a total prohibition on the involvement of the South-West Security Network, widely known as Amotekun, and all other non-state actors in election-related security operations.
The Force emphasized that constitutional mandates limit election policing strictly to legally recognized federal security agencies. Unrecognized vigilante groups and localized security outfits have been ordered to keep a safe distance from polling environments to prevent voter intimidation, conflict, and potential breakdown of law and order.
Strict Movement Restrictions Imposed
To guarantee a secure, transparent, and violence-free electoral process, the authorities have announced a total restriction on vehicular and human movement across the state.
- Start Time: 12:00 midnight on Friday, 14th August, 2026
- End Time: 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, 15th August, 2026
Citizens have been strongly advised to comply fully with the restriction order, noting that only accredited individuals and essential service providers granted official exemptions will be allowed movement during the restricted hours.
Call for Peace and Civil Compliance
Stakeholders, political parties, candidates, and their supporters are urged to conduct themselves responsibly, shunning any rhetoric or action that could trigger political violence. The police have reassured the electorate of a level playing field, encouraging residents to report suspicious activities directly to recognized statutory security agencies.
