OSOGBO — With less than 48 hours to the much-anticipated Osun State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final distribution figures, revealing that 1,906,390 registered voters have successfully collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
This translates to an impressive 81.50 per cent collection rate out of the state’s total voter population of 2,339,233.
In an official statement issued in Abuja by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the electoral body disclosed that the remaining 432,843 uncollected PVCs (18.50 per cent) have been securely warehoused with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in line with standard operational protocols.
Addressing Replacement Requests and Transparency
The electoral umpire also provided updates regarding voters who faced challenges with their initial cards due to damage, mutilation, or misplacement. According to INEC, 6,101 applicants successfully printed downloadable digital copies of their PVCs to facilitate their participation in Saturday’s exercise.
To ensure absolute transparency and build public confidence, INEC confirmed that a comprehensive breakdown of the collected PVCs, categorized strictly polling unit by polling unit, has been uploaded to its official website for public scrutiny.
Total Readiness for Saturday
As political parties make their final dashes across the wards and local government areas of the state, the commission has reiterated its unwavering commitment to delivering a credible exercise.
”The Commission reassures political parties, civil society organisations, media, and the good people of Osun State of its total readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive election on Saturday, 15th August 2026,” Haruna stated.
Security and election observers are expected to scale up deployments across the state ahead of the polls, as thousands of citizens prepare to cast their ballots to determine the next leadership of the ‘State of the Osun’.
