Ibadan, Nigeria – Recent data has revealed a significant number of HIV cases in Oyo State, with a total of 50,063 individuals recorded as living with the virus. This figure places Oyo among the states with a notable HIV burden in Nigeria.

However, the latest statistics indicate that Rivers, Benue, and Akwa Ibom states currently have the highest prevalence of HIV in the country. Rivers State leads with 208,767 cases, closely followed by Benue State with 202,346 cases, and Akwa Ibom with 161,597 cases.
Lagos State, the nation’s commercial hub, also reports a high number of cases, standing at 108,649. Other states with significant HIV prevalence include Anambra (100,429), the Federal Capital Territory (83,333), Delta (68,170), Imo (67,944), Enugu (61,028), Edo (60,095), and Taraba (58,460).
The data underscores the ongoing need for sustained efforts in HIV prevention, testing, and treatment across Nigeria. It highlights the importance of strategic interventions and resource allocation to address the epidemic in high-prevalence states like Rivers, Benue, and Akwa Ibom, as well as ensuring continued support for individuals living with HIV in states such as Oyo.
