OSOGBO — Tension flared early Saturday as popular Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, claimed that military personnel attempted to restrict his entry into Osun State ahead of the highly anticipated governorship election.
The music star, who is actively backing his uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, of the Accord Party, took to his verified social media account to voice his frustration. He argued that every Nigerian citizen maintains an unalienable right to freedom of movement regardless of political climate.
”I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time,” Davido posted.
Security Restrictions Defended
The incident follows a formal announcement by the Nigeria Police Force declaring a strict statewide movement restriction starting from 12:00 midnight on Friday until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Security agencies maintained that the temporary lockdown is a mandatory protocol designed to ensure a peaceful, credible, and orderly election environment.
Reacting to the singer’s complaints, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed the claims as theatrical. He emphasized that security parameters apply universally and do not exempt high-profile political figures or campaign supporters.
”You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted… due to the election and this is a standard security measure,” Ahmad stated via social media.

The off-cycle gubernatorial election pits incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke against key opponents, including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), amid intense political rivalry across the state.
