Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has formally notified the state House of Assembly of his intent to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or at an alternative date within March as deemed convenient by lawmakers. In a March 13 letter addressed to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Fubara cited compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgment recognizing the Amaewhule-led faction as the legitimate Assembly and referenced the lawmakers’ prior demand for budget submission. He acknowledged the failed March 12 attempt to present the budget after being denied entry to the Assembly’s temporary quarters, where gates were locked despite prior correspondence. The governor emphasized prioritizing state interests over political conflicts, urging collaboration to resolve the stalemate. This follows a March 3 ultimatum from lawmakers and ongoing tensions with Minister Nyesom Wike, who dismissed Fubara’s earlier communications as “useless”.The proposed presentation marks the latest development in Rivers’ governance crisis, with Fubara insisting on constitutional adherence amid legislative-executive friction.
