OSOGBO — Management of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has ordered the immediate and indefinite closure of its Ifetedo Campus housing the College of Law. The drastic measure follows the untimely and controversial death of Miss Grace Osunlakin, a 400-level student of Criminology and Security Studies.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, has thrown the entire university community into deep mourning and triggered simmering tensions among the student body regarding basic campus welfare infrastructure.
In an official statement released on Thursday by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the institution confirmed the shutdown but refrained from explicitly stating the clinical cause of Miss Osunlakin’s demise. However, the university administration acknowledged that the volatile emotional atmosphere on campus and the systemic complaints surrounding the environment necessitated an immediate freeze on academic activities.
According to the management, the decision to shutter the campus indefinitely was taken after a critical evaluation of the volatile situation. The closure is intended to allow grieving students to calm down, while providing a window for management to audit long-standing welfare issues plaguing the Ifetedo facility.
“The measure forms part of broader efforts to address longstanding challenges associated with the campus and to ensure the safety, welfare, and well-being of all students and staff,” the statement read.
University insiders hint that the audit will focus heavily on a comprehensive assessment of the campus healthcare facilities, the availability of qualified medical personnel, and the reliability of local water supply systems—areas that have reportedly been friction points for the student population.
