COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2022: NIGERIA WINS GOLD IN 4 ×100 WOMEN’S RACE
The name Nigeria has consecutively resounded in halls of champions and record breakers in the last couple of weeks. The world has seen records broken by the Nigerians in this couple of weeks.
Another record has been broken as Tobi Amusan, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma and Grace Nwokocha beat their counterparts to the 4 × 100 women gold medal in Birmingham.
The magnificent quad registers an African record-breaking record at the 2022 Commonwealth Games going on in Birmingham clinching gold at 42.10s, England came second at 42.41s while Jamaica hangs on to bronze at 43.08s.
The race had lots of fans across the globe speculating and eager to watch as the starter for Nigeria Tobi Amusan in recent weeks has not only broken the World Record for the 100m hurdles twice but also won gold in the 100m hurdle race right there in Birmingham a few hours earlier.
The athlete didn’t disappoint with an impressive start and a great baton exchange to Favour Ofili who handed it over to Rosemary Chukwuma before Grace Nwokocha finished the race leading Nigeria to victory.
This brings Nigeria’s gold tally in the Commonwealth 2022 games to 11 making them 6th on the overall medal table with 33 medals altogether.
