The Rivers State Police Command has initiated an investigation into an alleged incident involving a woman attempting to sell her five-year-old son in Port Harcourt.
According to reports gathered by our correspondent at the scene, the woman, identified as Onyinye, took her son to a popular market on Bishop Okoye Street in the Mile 3 area of Port Harcourt on Saturday.
However, drama unfolded when some traders confronted her, uncovering her true intentions, which she attributed to hardship.

Suspicions arose among the traders regarding the child’s ownership, leading them to apprehend the woman and escort her to the police station to report the matter, ultimately resulting in her arrest.
One of the traders expressed concern about the woman’s behavior, suggesting she may not be of sound mind.
Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that the matter is under investigation.
She mentioned, “The woman was brought to the station by some persons who alleged she came to the market to sell her child. We are investigating the matter to ascertain the veracity of the eyewitnesses’ claims. Meanwhile, the woman is still with the police.”
