Four internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo Boys,” have been convicted and sentenced to various jail terms by Justices P. I. Ajoku, P. I. Ayua, and S. I. Mark of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The convicts—Daniel Ebubechi Chinweobo, Timi Olamide Samuel, Chibueze Thaddeus Ugochukwu, and Emmanuel Linus—were prosecuted by the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges including impersonation, advance fee fraud, and obtaining money under false pretence.
Daniel Ebubechi Chinweobo, also known as Philip James, was found guilty of fraudulently obtaining £1,000 from a victim by impersonating a military officer and fabricating a marital relationship, violating the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

This conviction follows a series of EFCC operations in Port Harcourt targeting internet fraudsters, with previous cases resulting in jail terms ranging from months to years, reflecting the court’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime in the region.
The EFCC continues to prosecute such cases rigorously to deter cybercrime and protect victims from fraudulent schemes.
