Civil servants across Nigeria are set to benefit from a comprehensive salary and welfare overhaul, including increased peculiar allowances, revised benefits, and a new retirement exit scheme aimed at improving service-wide conditions.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while briefing journalists on decisions of the Federal Executive Council.
She explained that the reforms cover officers under the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure, with expected gains across all cadres.
According to her, the review includes a significant increase in peculiar allowances, structured to ensure improved take-home pay for workers at every grade level.
Walson-Jack said the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen staff welfare and retain talent in the civil service, noting that both junior and senior officers will benefit.
She added that key allowances—including duty tour allowance, estacode, and book allowance—have been revised upward, describing the move as a comprehensive update of existing welfare provisions in line with the Public Service Rules.
The reforms, she said, reflect a renewed commitment to human capital development and removing financial barriers to professional growth.
A major highlight is the approval of 100 per cent Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) for civil servants attending approved training programmes, whether or not travel is involved.
In addition, a new exit benefit scheme has been introduced for retiring civil servants under the Contributory Pension Scheme. Effective January 1, 2026, the scheme guarantees 100 per cent of a worker’s total annual emoluments as an exit package, separate from their pension.
Walson-Jack described the measure as a landmark intervention, stressing that no civil servant should leave service without adequate financial support.

She also announced the activation of the Employee Compensation Scheme to provide protection for workers affected by job-related injuries or death, ensuring support for their families.
The latest package is part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, welfare, and productivity across federal institutions.
