SHANGHAI, China — Nigeria’s sprint hurdles queen, Tobi Amusan, shook off jet lag to secure a hard-fought third-place finish in the women’s 100m Hurdles at the Shanghai Diamond League.
Lining up just a day after her arrival in China, the world record holder clocked a promising Season’s Best (SB) of 12.41 seconds. The performance signals an upward trajectory for the Nigerian track star as the outdoor season begins to heat up.
The highly anticipated race witnessed a historic showdown at the front. The United States’ Masai Russell stole the show, blitzing through the field to capture victory in a spectacular 12.25 seconds. Russell’s blistering performance shattered the Meet Record and established a new World Leading (WL) time for the season.

Hot on her heels was the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, who crossed the line in second place. Charlton stopped the clock at 12.38 seconds, setting a new Bahamian National Record in the process.
Despite being edged out for the top spots by Russell and Charlton, Amusan’s camp remains highly optimistic. Dropping a 12.41-second mark so early in the season—and immediately following grueling international travel—reaffirms that the “Tobi Express” is on the right track to hit peak form when it matters most this year.
