Uber’s Exit Becomes Atiku’s Latest Case Against Tinubu’s Economic Policies

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has turned Uber’s exit from Nigeria into another attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies.

Atiku, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate for 2027, accused the Tinubu administration of pursuing reforms that are hurting businesses, jobs and household incomes.

He made the criticism after Uber ended its operations in Nigeria following 12 years in the country.

Atiku described the government’s reforms as damaging to businesses and argued that rising operating costs are making Nigeria increasingly difficult for companies to navigate.

His camp linked the pressure to factors including higher fuel costs, foreign exchange difficulties and rising vehicle maintenance expenses.

The Uber departure has therefore become more than a business story.It has quickly entered the political argument over whether Tinubu’s economic reforms are producing the painful adjustment the government says Nigeria must endure or creating conditions that are driving businesses and jobs away.

For the opposition, the departure provides another example with which to challenge the administration ahead of the 2027 election.
