NIS Lauds EFCC’s Anti-Graft Drive, Vows Deeper Ties

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Zone A, has praised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its relentless campaign against corruption and financial crimes, pledging stronger collaboration through intelligence sharing and capacity building.

Assistant Comptroller-General Mohammed Adamu, Zonal Coordinator of NIS Zone A, made the commendation on Thursday, September 10, 2026, while receiving a delegation led by Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Adebayo Adeniyi, Acting Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, during a courtesy visit to the NIS Zonal Headquarters in Lagos. The EFCC publicised the engagement in a statement released on Monday, September 14.

Adamu described the EFCC as one of Nigeria’s most prestigious and hardworking agencies, noting that its sustained efforts had improved the country’s image both at home and abroad. He highlighted the commission’s record of convictions, which he said act as a powerful deterrent to would-be offenders.

“I am highly delighted to receive you and your entourage from the EFCC, one of the most prestigious and hardworking agencies in Nigeria. Thank you for a job well done. The EFCC has recorded significant achievements and secured convictions. These convictions serve as a deterrent to potential offenders, and Nigerians are proud of your work,” Adamu said.

He pledged the NIS’s readiness to deepen the existing partnership and said he would brief NIS headquarters on the strong working relationship between the two agencies. Adamu also requested training opportunities for immigration officers, emphasising that capacity-building programmes would boost professionalism and effectiveness in the discharge of their duties.

Adeniyi expressed gratitude for the long-standing synergy between the EFCC and the NIS. He called for continued cooperation and assured that the commission remains committed to due process in its operations.

“We appreciate your office for the cooperation we have enjoyed over the years. We are here to express our gratitude and to sustain the existing relationship. If there are any issues regarding our operations, please let us know. The Commission is committed to ensuring that everything is handled in line with due process. We look forward to continued cooperation,” he said.

The visit comes against the backdrop of the EFCC’s recent stewardship report under Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede. Between October 2023 and July 2026, the commission received 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases, filed 14,476 cases in court and secured 10,872 convictions—a conviction-to-filing ratio of 75.1 per cent. Recoveries in the same period stood at approximately ₦1.23 trillion, $684.48 million, £373,906 and €9.34 million, among other assets. In the first half of 2026 alone, it recorded 1,370 convictions from 1,889 filings.

Both agencies reaffirmed their shared commitment to tackling economic and financial crimes through closer inter-agency collaboration, underscoring the importance of coordinated intelligence and operational support in safeguarding Nigeria’s economic integrity.
