A former Governor of Ogun State and veteran journalist, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has warned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against complacency ahead of the 2027 presidential election, alleging that there are coordinated moves to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s political strength in the South.
Osoba made the remarks at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta during the announcement of the results of the APC presidential primaries in Ogun State, where Tinubu emerged victorious after polling 322,485 votes across the 20 local government areas of the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, who served as the state coordinator and collation officer, announced the results in the presence of top APC leaders including Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare Dr. Iziak Salako, APC governorship candidate Senator Solomon Adeola, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, and the Ogun APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, among others.
ValidViewNetwork had earlier reported that Tinubu defeated his rival, Stanley Osifo, who polled zero votes in the primary.
Addressing party members shortly before the declaration of results, Osoba urged APC supporters to begin preparing for what he described as the “real election” expected next January.
He dismissed claims suggesting Tinubu has no serious opposition, warning party faithful not to underestimate political developments ahead of the general election.
“The enemies are many,” Osoba said, stressing that APC stakeholders must remain alert and politically active.
According to ValidViewNetwork reports, Osoba alleged that political interests from within the South may unite to weaken Tinubu’s support base by fielding multiple candidates.
He specifically mentioned former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and former President Goodluck Jonathan as figures whose political ambitions or influence could contribute to splitting Southern votes.
“I want to appeal to us all ahead of the coming election: let us not be caught off guard. Many people are saying we have no opponents, but that is a misleading narrative. The enemies are many,” he said.
“As we approach the next election, there is a strong gang-up against us. They are plotting to field several candidates from our region in the South. Obi has emerged, Jonathan is quietly waiting in the background, and Makinde has been grandstanding. All these appear to be attempts to divide votes from the South.”
Osoba further appealed to party members to mobilize and vote massively for Tinubu, noting that the President had supported Ogun State through several developmental projects under Governor Abiodun’s administration.
He urged APC loyalists to reciprocate Tinubu’s support with votes when the general election begins.
