AWKA — A 56-year-old man identified as Madu has reportedly been murdered by a friend in a scheme allegedly linked to a disputed piece of land, in a case that has stirred fresh unease among residents already wary of trust turned deadly.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the development to newsmen, with the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) noting that investigations began on August 18, 2026, after Madu’s wife reported that her husband had left home on the evening of August 17 and never returned.
How the Story Unfolded
According to findings, the victim had reportedly been in discussions with the suspect, described as a friend, over a land transaction before he went missing.
ValidViewNetwork’s checks reveal that suspicion turned toward the friend after inconsistencies emerged in his account of Madu’s last movements, prompting detectives to widen the investigation beyond a routine missing-person inquiry.
It is alleged, though yet to be proven in court, that the disagreement over the land deal escalated into the fatal encounter, a pattern of land-related violence that continues to recur across South-East Nigeria, where land remains one of the most litigated and, at times, most dangerous forms of property.
Police Vow Justice
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed investigators to intensify efforts to identify and arrest all persons connected to the alleged conspiracy and murder. He reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and community collaboration in combating violent crime, stressing that the pursuit of the fleeing suspect(s) remains active as of press time.
