INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan says the commission will use intelligence-led action and prosecution to curb election violence ahead of the 2027 polls.
He spoke while opening the North-East Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment. He said no election can be credible if voters, personnel and observers operate under physical threat.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the meeting is the latest stop in a national review.
A FOILED PLOT
Amupitan said DSS-led joint operations uncovered an alleged plot by criminal kingpins to target ad hoc electoral workers and NYSC members.
He said the principal orchestrators were arrested and are being prosecuted.
WHAT INEC WILL DO
INEC will hold a national election security conference in Abuja to finalise arrangements for areas considered vulnerable to violence.
It has procured 57,000 new BVAS devices. Protecting staff, technology assets and voters is a stated priority. He added that technology alone cannot stop human compromise.
THE NORTH-EAST
The zone has 13,965,475 registered voters across Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe and Yobe. That is 13.51 percent of the national register.
Amupitan acknowledged distinct challenges, including desert terrain and remote communities. The test of this election violence INEC plan will come on polling day. ValidViewNetwork reports.
