ABUJA — Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have demonstrated the potency of modern security architecture after recovering a stolen Toyota Prado SUV and arresting a suspect within hours of the incident, leveraging advanced digital tracking technology.
The swift operation followed a distress complaint lodged at the Garki Police Station by the vehicle’s owner, Haruna Alhaji. According to police findings, the dark ash-coloured Toyota Prado—bearing registration number ABC 60 CZ X—was quietly driven out of the parking lot of an event center in Area 8, Garki, by an unidentified individual at approximately 3:10 p.m.
Reacting swiftly to the report, detectives swung into action, utilizing built-in digital tracking mechanisms to monitor the movement of the high-value vehicle. The tracking operation paid off swiftly, leading operatives to the exact location within the Garki district where the SUV was successfully recovered at about 7:30 p.m. the same day—roughly four hours after it was taken.
The follow-up operation also resulted in the apprehension of one Samaila Mamza, who was taken into custody in connection with the crime.
Briefing journalists on the breakthrough at the command headquarters, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody and will be formally charged to court as soon as preliminary investigations are concluded.
Highlighting the pivotal role of technology in modern policing, CP Sanusi underscored the urgency for motorists to embrace proactive security measures. He strongly advised vehicle owners to install reliable tracking devices, noting that such tech solutions drastically minimize recovery windows for security operatives during auto thefts.
Furthermore, the Commissioner called on residents of the Federal Capital Territory to remain vigilant and security-conscious, urging the public to immediately report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station.
Residents can also reach the FCT Police Command directly through its emergency helplines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
