LONDON — Adult content creator Bonnie Blue has once again found herself at the center of a fierce public controversy after recording a personalized birthday video for a 17-year-old boy, prompting severe criticism from child safeguarding advocates and social media commentators.
The creator, whose legal name is Tia Billinger, posted the video message on TikTok to mark the teenager’s birthday. In the footage, she wished the minor—publicly identified only as Jack—a happy birthday and alluded to a vehicle heavily associated with her adult brand, suggesting he would be old enough to step inside it once he turned 18 the following year.
The post immediately ignited a wave of backlash across digital platforms. Critics quickly coined the term “spawn camping”—a video game reference describing a tactic where a player waits at a fixed location for an opponent to respawn—to condemn what they viewed as an adult public figure tracking and anticipating a minor’s coming of age. While social media users and commentators raised serious moral and safeguarding red flags, these online allegations do not constitute legal findings of a criminal offense.
This latest storm follows a pattern of intense public scrutiny for Billinger, who previously drew widespread attention in 2024 for organizing promotional meet-ups with incoming university freshers. Defending her previous engagements to media outlets, Billinger maintained that all participants were legally consenting adults who willingly initiated contact, stating, “They’re 18 and consenting. It’s their bodies. They choose to contact me.”
However, child welfare and safeguarding professionals argue that interactions involving minors and prominent adult figures demand rigorous ethical standards, regardless of upcoming milestone birthdays.
Lala, a social worker, dating educator, and co-founder of the campaign group Close The Consent Gap, told reporters that the video highlights dangerous power dynamics and profound moral concerns. Emphasizing the disparity in age, wealth, and public status between the creator and the teenager, she questioned whether the minor’s vulnerabilities were adequately respected.
While noting that the recording did not involve physical contact and acknowledging the possibility that a third party might have purchased the personalized video and scripted the wording, Lala described the decision to record and publish the message as “highly irresponsible.”
Furthermore, the dating educator cautioned against cultural double standards surrounding teenage boys, warning that societal assumptions that young males should always welcome sexualized attention from older women can pressure them into silence and obscure uncomfortable experiences. She also critiqued the viral use of gaming terminology like “spawn camping,” arguing that casual slang can minimize behavior that warrants serious child protection oversight.
The controversy has also drawn political attention. Reports indicate that Conservative equalities spokesperson Joy Morrissey previously reached out to the NSPCC in September to formally raise safeguarding concerns regarding separate online posts made by Billinger following the birth of her child. Those concerns centered on videos where the creator appeared to be holding an infant while promoting adult entertainment material, prompting Morrissey to stress that children must never be integrated into or used to market the adult industry.
An NSPCC spokesperson reiterated that the charity treats all child safety and wellbeing grievances with utmost seriousness, urging anyone with concerns regarding a child’s welfare to immediately utilize the organization’s dedicated helpline.
Representatives for Billinger were approached for comment regarding the birthday video, but no official statement has yet been released. As digital platforms grapple with the evolving intersection of adult content creation and underage audiences, the incident continues to fuel national debates over digital safety, ethics, and the responsibilities of online influencers.
