ADO-EKITI — The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has declared that Nigeria is far too resilient and great to be intimidated by insurgents, bandits, or criminal syndicates.
Speaking on Saturday during a high-profile working visit to Ekiti State, Mrs. Tinubu assured citizens that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains unshakeably committed to dismantling terror networks and restoring absolute peace across the geopolitical zones.
The First Lady made the assertions during an interactive session with the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers at the Jibowu Hall, Government House, Ado-Ekiti.
”The President is working tirelessly to ensure that insecurity in the country is curbed. He has entered into strategic internal security frameworks and global partnerships with developed nations, including the United States, to smash those stoking the fires of killings and kidnappings.”
While acknowledging the deep anxieties caused by recent security breaches, the First Lady expressed robust optimism that the nation’s security challenges would soon be a thing of the past. She urged Nigerians to remain steadfast, supportive, and prayerful, emphasizing that God would not fail the country.
Monarchy Demands Tighter Anti-Kidnapping Laws
In his earlier address, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Oba Adejimi Alagbado, the Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, commended President Tinubu’s leadership model, recalling his transformative tenure as the Governor of Lagos State.
However, presenting the collective stance of the traditional institution, Oba Alagbado pressed the Federal Government for harsher measures against violent actors. The monarchs formally advocated for an immediate review of the country’s anti-kidnapping and terrorism laws to stipulate stiffer penalties, while reinforcing their support for the establishment of state police to tackle localized crime effectively.
Economic Relief and Digital Infrastructure
Beyond security assurances, the visit featured major socio-economic interventions championed by the First Lady’s flagship program, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Addressing a mammoth crowd of enthusiastic residents at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, Mrs. Tinubu announced a ₦100 million Business Recapitalisation Grant explicitly targeted at vulnerable women. Under the scheme, 2,000 female petty traders across the state will receive a direct, non-refundable cash injection of ₦50,000 each to buffer their family businesses against current economic headwinds.
Earlier in the day, the First Lady landed at the Ekiti Airport at exactly 1:09 PM aboard an Airbus flight (5N-FGY). Her first official engagement was at the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, where she commissioned a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, built and equipped by the RHI to bolster digital literacy among youths.
Early Drums for 2026 and 2027 Elections
The working visit quickly took on a vibrant political hue as the First Lady openly canvassed for the re-election of Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, ahead of the state’s upcoming June 20 governorship election.
”We are here for BAO (Biodun Abiodun Oyebanji). Vote to return him to office so he can sustain this momentum of development,” she declared, promising to return to the state to mobilize support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027.
Responding, Governor Oyebanji attributed his administration’s visible milestones in healthcare, road infrastructure, and job creation to the immense backing of the Federal Government. “All the things we have executed would not have been possible without the support of my father, President Tinubu,” the Governor noted, assuring that Ekiti voters would overwhelmingly reciprocate the gesture at the polls.
The First Lady was accompanied on the trip by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima; the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Idele; alongside the wives of several state governors and top federal lawmakers.
