President Bola Tinubu has approved the redeployment of Femi Fani-Kayode as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to South Africa.
Fani-Kayode was initially posted to Germany but was later reassigned amid reports that the German government rejected his nomination.
However, in a post shared on X, the former minister dismissed the claims, stating that he personally requested a transfer from Germany to South Africa.
According to him, he informed the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, that he preferred South Africa for personal and ideological reasons, noting that he had spent most of his life in Europe and wanted to serve in a country he had long admired.
Fani-Kayode also said he chose South Africa because of its strong ties with Nigeria, its position as Africa’s biggest economy, and what he described as shared views on foreign affairs and Pan-Africanism.

He added that President Tinubu approved the request after Tuggar forwarded it for consideration.
