A man who was arrested for allegedly attacking a woman with a box cutter in Paris’s 13th district on Thursday evening turned violent in a police station, shooting and seriously injuring two officers after seizing one of their weapons.
According to a source close to the case, the incident occurred shortly before 10:30 pm local time. One of the wounded officers sustained life-threatening injuries.
The Paris public prosecutor’s office confirmed the details to AFP.
Paris police chief Laurent Nunez, accompanied by prosecutor Laure Beccuau, arrived at the scene around midnight.
Nunez briefed reporters, stating that the suspect was apprehended around 10:00 pm for a brutal assault on a woman using a box cutter. Upon being brought to the police station for processing, he seized a weapon from one of the officers and inflicted serious injuries on both officers present.

The wounded officers and the suspect were promptly transported to the hospital. The suspect sustained serious injuries from return fire.
Nunez expressed concern for the injured officers’ health, commending the station staff’s bravery and prompt response.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Paris public prosecutor’s office stated that three investigations had been initiated: one into the attempted murder of the woman, another into the attempted murder of public officials, and a third by the national police’s internal affairs department to examine the use of force by the officer who discharged their weapon.
While the suspect was hospitalized with a chest wound, his condition was reported as stable.
The ongoing investigations aim to clarify the events’ circumstances, the suspect’s identity, and any potential connection to the female victim.
