The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has heavily criticized former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of dragging his late mother into political arguments.
Wike’s reaction follows Amaechi’s recent interview on Channels Television, where the former Rivers State governor claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies made it impossible for his family to afford critical medication, ultimately contributing to his mother’s death.
Addressing supporters during a visit to the Uzugbani Ekpeye National Executive Council in Ahoada East Local Government Area, Wike expressed disbelief that a former high-ranking public official would resort to using a deceased parent for political leverage.
Recalling Amaechi’s extensive political career—serving as Speaker of the State House of Assembly (1999–2007), governor (2007–2015), and minister (2015–2023)—Wike argued that it was illogical for someone who occupied such prestigious offices for 24 years to claim financial helplessness.
The FCT minister further questioned why Amaechi failed to reach out to friends and associates for financial assistance if he genuinely lacked the funds, noting the massive turnout of dignitaries who arrived in private jets to grace the burial.
Condemning remarks tying the political fortunes of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the happiness of the deceased, Wike urged politicians to leave the dead to rest peacefully and refrain from exploiting personal grief for electoral gains.
