Sowore: Adeboye Prayed for Me, Said My Path Is Honourable, Confident of My Triumph

African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore says General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, prayed for him and expressed confidence in his political triumph.

Sowore disclosed the encounter after attending the RCCG National Thanksgiving Service at the church’s headquarters in Ebute Metta, Lagos, on Sunday. He said he attended the service on invitation and was accompanied by the AAC National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe.

According to Sowore, he subsequently had a private conversation with Adeboye, who told him that he followed his activities and considered his political path honourable.

Sowore said the cleric also expressed confidence in his eventual triumph.

The AAC candidate described the meeting as significant, particularly because it was his second encounter with Adeboye at the same RCCG headquarters, approximately three decades after their first meeting.

ValidViewNetwork reports, the account of the private conversation comes from Sowore himself. There has been no separate public statement from Adeboye confirming the specific political interpretation attached to the encounter.

Thirty years apart

Sowore recalled meeting Adeboye in 1996, shortly after completing his National Youth Service Corps programme. He said their earlier encounter occurred during his activism against campus cultism and cult-related violence.

Three decades later, the two met again at the RCCG headquarters. Sowore thanked the church for its reception but stressed that his attendance at the thanksgiving service was not intended as a political campaign.

The development nevertheless has political significance because Sowore is already positioning himself for the 2027 presidential election.

ValidViewNetwork reports, religious encounters involving presidential candidates can attract political interpretations, but a prayer or private conversation should not automatically be presented as an endorsement unless the religious leader expressly makes such an endorsement public.

The 2027 contest will ultimately be decided by voters, not by individual prayers or political personalities.
