BRIKAMA, The Gambia – The Gambia Police Force has taken a 35-year-old Nigerian national, Audu Williams, into custody following the brutal murder of his girlfriend, 41-year-old Esther Tango.
The victim’s body was discovered on July 7, 2026, abandoned in a bush situated between the villages of Kitty and Siffoe in the West Coast Region. Initially, the woman remained unidentified, known to locals only by the alias “Jessica”.
Following an intensive investigation led by the Suba Ward Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and supported by the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) team, detectives successfully identified the deceased. A search of the victim’s residence in Brikama led to the recovery of her Nigerian passport, which provided investigators with her true identity.
According to an official police statement issued on Monday, authorities utilized a combination of witness interviews, forensic crime scene analysis, and the review of telecommunications records to link Williams to the crime.
Upon being brought in for questioning, Williams reportedly confessed to the killing. Preliminary findings suggest that he lured Tango to the Kitty area on the night of July 6, 2026, where the fatal incident took place before he left her body in the surrounding bushland.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody after being cautioned. The Gambia Police Force has commended its officers for their diligence and professional handling of the case, which led to a swift breakthrough in the investigation.
