LAGOS — The trial of Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo, the social media personality known as “Killaboi,” took a harrowing turn yesterday as the family of the deceased, Augusta Osedion, provided eyewitness accounts of the moments following her brutal murder in July 2023.
Appearing before the court, Augusta’s uncle delivered a graphic and emotional testimony, recounting how the family’s search for the missing 21-year-old Lead City University student ended in a gruesome discovery at Best’s residence in Oral Estate, Ajah.
The Search and Discovery
According to the witness, the family became alarmed after three days of silence from Augusta. Aided by her friend, identified only as Oyin, the family approached the high-security estate.
”We had to bring a soldier because the estate security wouldn’t allow us entry without a code or an invite,” the uncle testified. He described finding the gate to Best’s apartment slightly ajar, suggesting a “hasty departure.” Augusta’s car was parked in the compound with the keys left conspicuously on the bonnet.
Despite the eerie silence and signs of a struggle, the witness claimed estate security initially blocked them from entering the building, demanding a search warrant.
A Scene of Horror
After returning with police officers, the search party used a ladder to gain access to the apartment through an upper floor. The uncle, who was the first to enter, described a scene of absolute horror.
”I saw a pool of blood spreading across the apartment. Looking further, I saw a swollen body. I immediately recognized it was my niece,” he told the court.
Further investigations revealed the extent of the violence. It is alleged that Benjamin Best not only stabbed Augusta but also mutilated her body, removing internal organs before fleeing the country.
The Flight and Extradition
The court was reminded of the suspect’s long evasion of justice. Following the murder, Best reportedly took to social media to confess to the killing, claiming it occurred during a “heated argument.”
He subsequently fled Nigeria, traveling through Sierra Leone—where he was briefly arrested under a false identity before escaping during a prison break—and eventually moving through East Asia and the Middle East. His run ended in January 2025 when he was apprehended by Qatari authorities in Doha and extradited back to Nigeria in April 2025 through the coordination of INTERPOL.
Trial Adjourned
The prosecution continues to build its case against Best, who faces charges of murder. Following the conclusion of the uncle’s testimony, the presiding judge adjourned the matter.
The case is scheduled to resume on April 22 and 23, 2026, for further hearing and the presentation of additional evidence by the state.
