Leicestershire Police in the UK have intensified efforts to locate the family of Uchechukwu Haniel Kanu, a 21-year-old Nigerian national on a student visa, discovered with severe injuries on a Thurmaston street. Officers responding to reports of damaged vehicles on Melton Road on September 12 found Kanu, a Riverside area Leicester resident, in critical condition from an apparent assault. He remains hospitalized in a serious but stable state, unable to provide family details.
Detective Constable Kevin Sharkey revealed extensive searches in the UK and Nigeria have failed to trace relatives, prompting a public appeal on December 10. “We now ask for the public’s help to trace his family or anyone who may know him,” Sharkey stated, urging family members attempting contact to reach out for medical team arrangements. Information can be shared with DC 2137 Sharkey via 101 or the police website, referencing crime number 25*539400.

Five men aged 24, 26, 34, 37, and 53 face arrest linked to the incident but were released pending further inquiries. No updates on Kanu’s communication ability or assault motive emerged as of December 12. Nigerian communities in the UK and homeland are key to resolving this.
