
Abeokuta — In a remarkable honour befitting a leader whose reign has shepherded peace and progress for two decades, the Egba General Title Chiefs have announced plans to mark the 20th anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, with a landmark civic event and a lasting legacy project.
The grand reception is slated for Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the historic Ake Palace in Abeokuta, kicking off at 12 noon. More than 200 Egba chiefs from across the region will assemble to pay tribute to the revered monarch. Festivities will include official speeches, felicitations, awards, and vibrant cultural music performances.
In an exclusive statement, Chief Israel Akanni Akinwale, FAAC, Baagbimo of Egbaland and Chairman of the Egba General Title Chiefs, revealed that the chiefs are dedicating a major infrastructural gift to the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMSA). The gift is a state-of-the-art 2,000-seater lecture theatre, which will be named the “Oba Adedotun Gbadebo Lecture Theatre” in honour of the Alake. This gift symbolizes the chiefs’ commitment to advancing education and healthcare development in Egbaland, reflecting the monarch’s transformative leadership.
Chief Akinwale emphasized, “This initiative is our collective way of acknowledging Kabiyesi’s immense contributions in ushering peace, unity, and unprecedented socio-economic growth within Egbaland over the last twenty years.” The project also underscores the Egba chiefs’ desire to invest in the future by supporting Nigeria’s emerging health sciences institution.
Oba Michael Adedotun Gbadebo’s reign, commencing in 2005, has been widely praised for fostering stability, infrastructural development, and cultural revitalization in Egbaland. His leadership continues to inspire pride among his people and has garnered accolades from diverse groups, including cultural organizations and government officials.
The upcoming reception is expected to attract dignitaries, cultural groups, and well-wishers nationwide, all eager to celebrate two decades of a reign marked by peace, progress, and a renewed sense of Egba heritage.
