The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) has partnered with the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN) to spearhead a cultural redefinition aimed at boosting Nigeria’s economic productivity through the creative industries.

Mrs. Adebukola Agbaminoja, Executive Secretary/CEO of LSFVCB, disclosed this collaboration during the Creative Exhibition 2.0 held at NECA House, Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday, October 16, 2025. The event carried the theme “Redefining Culture for Economic Productivity.” Mrs. Agbaminoja underscored the vital role culture plays in shaping Nigerian identity and stressed that combining regulatory oversight with creative endeavor will foster innovation and responsible content that aligns with national values.

Dr. Joy Osawaru Akinyemi, President of CDGN, outlined the Guild’s vision of positioning Nigeria as Africa’s design capital. She emphasized showcasing Nigerian creativity as a significant export, fostering partnerships between government and creative sectors, and attracting investments into the cultural economy—objectives harmonious with Lagos State Government’s agenda to elevate creative industries as major economic drivers.

Renowned cultural expert Bishop (Dr.) Joseph Ighalo Edoro contributed by presenting a paper highlighting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and the proven success of Nollywood as key pillars for economic expansion. He noted that with strategic investments in training, technology, intellectual property management, and international partnerships, Nigeria’s creative industry could substantially grow its GDP contribution, generate employment, and deepen global cultural exchange.

Adding an international dimension, Mr. Daniel Krull, Consul General of Germany, proposed a cross-continental cultural partnership linking Nollywood with Germany’s film industry. Krull suggested exchange programs in technical fields such as set design, cinematography, and post-production to merge African cultural vibrancy with European technical expertise. This collaboration aims to cultivate “cultural engineers” equipped to export authentic African narratives with global standards, benefiting both film industries.

The Creative Exhibition 2.0 event symbolized a pivotal step for Nigeria’s creative sector, convening stakeholders across government, culture, and industry to explore and define the intersection of culture and economic growth.
