The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has fined RwandAir ₦15 million over its failure to resolve a passenger’s baggage complaint within the period prescribed by aviation regulations.
The NCAA also directed the airline to replace the passenger’s damaged bag and pay $170 as first-need compensation.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the sanction followed the airline’s failure to address the complaint within the timeframe required under Nigeria’s consumer protection regulations.
The NCAA said the measures were imposed under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which provides remedies for passengers affected by baggage problems.
The regulator’s passenger guidance also confirms a $170 first-need compensation for delayed international baggage.
The sanction comes as the aviation regulator continues to enforce passenger protection rules against airlines operating in Nigeria.
For passengers, the case also serves as a reminder that damaged, delayed or lost baggage can attract specific remedies under the country’s aviation regulations.ValidViewNetwork reports that the NCAA’s action puts the cost of unresolved passenger complaints firmly on the airlines operating in Nigeria.
