Foundation urges sustained probe into alleged assault of Ogun teenager

The Prince Adesina Olalekan Foundation has called on the Ogun State Police Command to maintain pressure in the investigation of alleged sexual assaults on a 17-year-old boy in Abeokuta, insisting that the teenager’s safety and a thorough, impartial inquiry must remain priorities.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni ordered an immediate manhunt for a suspect identified only as Mr Kola after the boy’s parents formally reported the matter at the Adigbe Police Division on Tuesday, 8 September 2026. According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the teenager, accompanied by his parents, alleged that Kola assaulted him on three separate occasions in January 2026 and threatened him to keep silent.

Police said the case only came to their attention with the September report. Detectives took the teenager for medical examination at a hospital in the Adigbe area and opened an investigation. The suspect remains at large, and Ojajuni has directed officers to intensify efforts to locate and arrest him. The command has described the probe as urgent, professional and sensitive, reaffirming its commitment to protecting children and vulnerable persons.

In a statement signed on Friday by its Managing Director, Habeeb Whyte, the foundation said it had monitored the case with concern and welcomed the police response. It specifically praised Ojajuni for ordering the manhunt and directing that the matter be handled with the urgency and sensitivity required.

“We particularly commend the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, for ordering an immediate manhunt for the suspect and directing that the matter be investigated with the urgency and sensitivity it deserves,” the foundation said.

The organisation stressed that prompt institutional action is critical. Victims and families often hesitate to report sexual abuse because of fear, stigma, threats or lack of confidence in authorities. Swift responses, it argued, reassure the public that allegations involving the abuse of children will be taken seriously.

The foundation described the police reaction so far as an example of the responsiveness expected of officers entrusted with public protection. It urged the command to sustain the investigation’s momentum, ensure the suspect is apprehended, and conduct a thorough, impartial and professional inquiry. Where evidence establishes that an offence has been committed, the foundation said, the appropriate prosecutorial authorities should pursue the case in accordance with the law.

The call comes amid broader public concern over sexual offences against minors in Ogun State. Police have repeatedly stated a zero-tolerance stance on such crimes and emphasised protection for children and other vulnerable groups.
