VDM Slams Benue Youths Over Peter Obi Convoy Attack

​Popular social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has broken his silence regarding the viral video of youths allegedly chasing former Anambra State governor Peter Obi out of Benue State, expressing a mixture of sarcasm and deep frustration over the incident.

​Obi’s convoy was reportedly obstructed by a crowd chanting “go back” during a visit intended for political engagement and humanitarian outreach to communities affected by security challenges.

​Weighing in on the development across his official handles, VDM expressed dismay that a massive crowd could easily be mobilized for political machinations while genuine existential threats facing the state are often met with apathy. In a statement laced with sharp irony, he remarked that the energy displayed by the crowd in repelling a politician should ideally be channeled toward confronting the bandits and terrorists terrorizing local communities.

​”I was really, really disappointed in Benue State youths—not all of them, but that crowd that came out. It was heartbreaking,” VDM stated. He lamented that after decades of suffering, displacement, and persistent farmer-herder clashes that have crippled agricultural activities, young people continue to allow themselves to be deployed as political tools.

​Drawing comparisons to past civil demonstrations, the activist recalled how peaceful protesters demanding an end to insecurity and justice for victims of massacres—such as the tragic incidents in Yelwata—were routinely met with tear gas and heavy police dispersal. In contrast, he noted that the recent political crowd faced no such state resistance, underscoring what he termed a selective and unfortunate use of youth mobilization for partisan interests.

​While distancing himself from political alignments or endorsing any candidate for the upcoming electoral cycle, VDM urged young citizens across the country to look past political divides and prioritize community welfare and security over the ambitions of self-serving leaders.
