KITWE — The quiet community of Kapoto Township is reeling from a devastating domestic dispute that has left a 26-year-old mother of three dead and an investigation underway.
Vainess Kanyama tragically lost her life following a violent confrontation on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, after she allegedly confronted Christin Ntundwe regarding an ongoing relationship with Kanyama’s husband.
According to family accounts shared by the victim’s uncle, Derrick Bwalya, the situation escalated rapidly. Kanyama was reportedly tracked down and subjected to a severe physical assault near a local market. Bwalya received a frantic call alerting him to the emergency, arriving at the scene to find his niece unresponsive and bleeding heavily from the nose.
Emergency efforts to transport her to a medical facility proved futile, as she was pronounced dead before arrival. The grim reality of the incident was formally lodged with local law enforcement, triggering an immediate manhunt.
A subsequent post-mortem examination revealed that Kanyama suffered fatal trauma, specifically identifying blood clots on both sides of her brain as the cause of death. Her grieving family laid her to rest on Friday following the completion of the autopsy.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Kanyama family is issuing a passionate plea for accountability. Relatives are directly urging the victim’s husband to fully cooperate with police efforts to locate Ntundwe, who remains at large and on the run from authorities.
Kanyama leaves behind three young children, the youngest being just five years old. As police investigations continue, community leaders and activists are reiterating calls to address the rising tide of gender-based violence across the region.
