The 2027 presidential campaign has been plunged into a grave security crisis following the alleged abduction of African Action Congress (AAC) candidate, Omoyele Sowore, by armed thugs in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, with his campaign team accusing the Department of State Services (DSS) of complicity in the attack.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at Tawakal’tu Restaurants and Catering Services, where Sowore and his entourage were reportedly ambushed and violently attacked, leaving his current location unknown, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE ATTACK
According to the Sowore/Magashi Presidential Election Campaign, the assailants stormed the restaurant, assaulted team members, damaged campaign vehicles, and forcibly took the candidate away.
In a statement signed by spokesperson Abdulkareem Musa, the campaign described the development as a “serious security concern” and demanded an immediate investigation by the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS, and INEC.
Eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters that the attackers were political thugs allegedly linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Videos from the scene showed overturned tables, shattered chairs, and a damaged vehicle with a flat tyre.
THE ALLEGATION OF STATE COMPLICITY
The campaign’s media team went further, alleging on Sowore’s official X account that the DSS “provided these attackers with our exact location, enabling them to carry out this vicious assault.
“This is a damning allegation that has not been independently verified but adds a dangerous dimension to the incident. The accusation suggests that state security apparatus may have been weaponised against a political opponent.
THE LEGAL CONTEXT
The incident occurred just a day after Sowore’s lawyer informed a Federal High Court in Abuja that the candidate was in Ekiti for campaign activities.
This had led to the adjournment of his cyberbullying trial to November 3.
The timing is suspicious. Sowore is facing trial, and his political activities are being tracked. Now, he has been abducted. The question is whether these two facts are connected.
THE POLICE SILENCE
As of press time, the Ekiti State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
The silence is deafening. If a presidential candidate can be abducted in broad daylight and the police say nothing, what does that say about the safety of ordinary Nigerians?
WHY IT MATTERS
This is not just an attack on Sowore. It is an attack on the democratic process.
If a presidential candidate cannot campaign without being kidnapped, the 2027 election is in jeopardy. If the state cannot or will not protect opposition figures, the playing field is not just uneven—it is dangerous.

The AAC has demanded answers. The DSS has been accused. The police have been silent. And Sowore’s whereabouts remain unknown. The clock is ticking. Every minute that passes without his safe return is a minute that undermines the credibility of Nigeria’s democracy. ValidViewNetwork reports.
