A joint security operation in Lusaka has resulted in the fatal shooting of former Transport and Communications Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya, as reported by The Citizen. The incident occurred at a residential property linked to opposition leader Brian Mundubile.
According to official police statements, law enforcement and military personnel encountered resistance and incoming gunfire while executing the raid, prompting security forces to return fire. The 49-year-old former lawmaker was fatally wounded during the exchange. Authorities confirmed his identity after family members were called to assist with identification.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of eleven individuals. State authorities have alleged that the property was utilized for storing high-grade weaponry and coordinating militia-style insurgency activities. Opposition representatives have strongly rejected these claims as fabrications, maintaining that the raid constituted an unjustified attack.
The security sweep follows a tense electoral climate in the country. International observers and local organizations have continued to monitor developments closely as legal and political challenges unfold in the capital.
