The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody a Chinese national, Bai Quang, following a formal petition detailing allegations of sexual assault and persistent unwanted sexual advances directed at his Nigerian employee, Charles Nwafor.
According to police sources, the confrontation escalated after Nwafor repeatedly rebuffed his employer’s advances. The suspect allegedly cornered the complainant, physically assaulted him by pulling down his trousers, and touched his private parts against his consent.
The situation reportedly worsened when Quang lured Nwafor to a hotel under the guise of holding a business discussion, where he allegedly attempted to force him into further unwanted sexual acts. Following continued refusals from the employee, the employer allegedly issued direct threats and summarily terminated Nwafor’s employment contract.
In response to the petition filed by the victim, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, ordered an immediate transfer of the case file from the Hausa Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for comprehensive scrutiny.
The investigation is currently spearheaded by the Diplomatic and Foreign Nationals Section of the SCID, operating under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the department, Dayo Akinbisehin. Concurrently, formal diplomatic procedures have been initiated to notify the Chinese Embassy of the suspect’s ongoing detention in line with standard protocols governing foreign nationals in Nigeria.
