ABUJA – In a dramatic political development, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has removed Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, as its Chairman. The decision was reached during an extraordinary meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors held late Thursday night at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The removal comes as a significant shock to the political establishment, occurring just hours after Uzodimma acted as the official representative for the forum. Earlier on Thursday, he had led the delegation to submit the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms for President Bola Tinubu at the APC National Secretariat.
According to sources familiar with the proceedings, approximately 20 governors were involved in the deliberations, with at least 17 in physical attendance, including the governors of Ogun, Bayelsa, and Enugu states. While the meeting was still ongoing at the time of filing this report, the atmosphere was described as “decisive.”
The reasons for the sudden change in leadership remain guarded, though party insiders suggest a need for “repositioning” ahead of the party’s upcoming National Convention. This development follows a pattern of recent administrative shifts within the APC; notably, Uzodimma was recently redeployed from his role as Chairman of the National Convention Central Coordination Committee to the position of Treasurer.
A new chairman for the PGF is expected to be announced in the coming hours as the governors conclude their consultations.
