Courtney Clenney, the 30-year-old former OnlyFans model who fatally stabbed her Nigerian-American boyfriend, Christian Tobechukwu “Toby” Obumseli, has been sentenced to six years in prison. The sentencing follows a plea deal in which Clenney pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a deadly weapon, bringing an end to a high-profile legal battle that has captivated the public since 2022.
The Plea and Sentencing
During a court appearance in Miami, Florida, on Monday, August 10, 2026, Clenney accepted the plea agreement, which also includes five years of probation following her prison term. As part of the resolution, the court will grant her credit for the nearly four years she has already spent in custody since her initial arrest in August 2022. This means she is expected to serve approximately two more years behind bars.
Upon her eventual release, Clenney is required to undergo comprehensive mental health and substance abuse evaluations and treatment. Furthermore, prosecutors have successfully ensured that she will be prohibited from profiting financially from the circumstances surrounding Obumseli’s death.
Background of the Case
The incident occurred on April 3, 2022, at the couple’s luxury apartment in the Edgewater neighborhood of Miami. Obumseli, 27, died from a stab wound during a domestic dispute. While Clenney had initially maintained that she acted in self-defense, claiming she was a victim of an abusive relationship, prosecutors presented extensive evidence—including disturbing surveillance footage—that suggested a pattern of violence within their relationship.

One piece of evidence that gained significant public attention was elevator footage from months before the incident, which showed Clenney physically attacking Obumseli.
Family Reaction
For the family of the deceased, the sentencing marks a painful, yet necessary, conclusion to a long-standing quest for accountability. In statements shared during the proceedings, the Obumseli family expressed that no legal outcome could ever truly replace the life that was taken. Representatives for the family emphasized that Christian was a man who “loved deeply” and that his absence has left a void in their lives that can never be filled.
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle noted that the plea agreement was reached in consultation with the family, allowing them to hear Clenney finally accept responsibility for her actions.
