The Osun gubernatorial election has come and gone. The ballots have been cast. The celebrations have begun. Governor Ademola Adeleke has once again emerged victorious, ending another fiercely contested political battle in Osun State. Yet, beyond the headlines, the campaign speeches, the rallies, and the final declaration of results lies a story that transcends politics. Elections often leave behind important lessons about leadership, loyalty, sacrifice, relationships, and the power of unity. This election was no exception. While political analysts will continue to examine voting patterns and campaign strategies, many Nigerians have chosen to focus on another compelling narrative, one that highlights the extraordinary role played by David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

There is a reason certain people become the glue that holds a family together. They are the bridge between generations. They preserve relationships. They carry everyone along. They remind us that success means very little if those who shared our beginnings are left behind.

In an age where wealth often creates distance, Davido has consistently projected a different image. Despite his enormous success, international recognition, sold out concerts, business interests, endorsements, and influence that stretches far beyond Nigeria, he has repeatedly demonstrated that family remains at the center of his life.

He could easily have chosen a different path. He could have insulated himself behind security details, private jets, luxury homes, and the privileges that accompany global celebrity status.

He could have concluded that politics was not his responsibility. He could have reasoned that his music career was too important to be interrupted by family obligations. He could have stayed away from the public scrutiny that naturally accompanies political campaigns. He could have decided to give money as support and stay away. Yet, he chose involvement over indifference.

One of the most striking aspects of Davido’s personality is his humility in family settings. Images and videos of him prostrating before elders have repeatedly circulated on social media. In Yoruba culture, prostration is more than a greeting. It is an expression of honor, submission, respect, and a recognition of the values that bind a family together. Many celebrities abandon such traditions after attaining fame. Davido did not.

His actions communicate a powerful message. Wealth should never erase culture. Fame should never destroy humility. Success should never separate a person from family.

Interestingly, his name itself carries a profound meaning. David. The name immediately reminds us of the great King David in the Bible. David was a shepherd, a warrior, a musician, a strategist, and a leader. He possessed charisma that attracted people. He inspired loyalty. He brought people together.

Whether by coincidence or by divine design, many of those qualities seem to find expression in Davido.

His charisma is undeniable! From jumping on the car to jumping on the stage, he was deeply involved. His energy is infectious. His public statements often reveal a man who is fiercely protective of his family. His movements during his uncle’s re-election campaign demonstrated commitment, loyalty, and a willingness to deploy his influence in support of his family. His statements were bold, courageous and with a strong determination to unsettle the opponents. That does not mean that the uncle is perfect before him but he chose the slogan “What must be done, must be done.”

Politics is never an easy terrain. It is not a stage for music concert. Campaigns are exhausting. Criticism is inevitable. Opposition is relentless. Yet, Davido remained visible. He interacted with people. He connected with supporters. He amplified messages. He lent his voice, his presence, and his influence to a cause that mattered to his family. He was not passive!

He did not have to do this.

He could have stayed in America.

He could have remained on stage.

He could have released another record.

He could have told himself that politics was not his problem.

He could have said, “My uncle is a grown man. Let him fight his own battle.”

And nobody could reasonably have accused him of abandoning his career.

But he chose family.

That is the point.

He used his voice.

He used his influence.

He used his name.

And perhaps most importantly, he used his presence.

His message to the people of Osun was remarkably direct. He urged voters to reject violence and intimidation and insisted that the people should defend their votes.

At another point, his message was even more powerful:

“To every person in Osun, come out and exercise your right to vote. Do not be afraid or intimidated. Your vote is your voice.”

That was not simply a musician speaking.

That was a family member standing beside his uncle.

That was a nephew saying, in effect, “I will not watch from a distance while my family fights for what it believes in.”

He also appealed for peace and credible elections, urging the people to choose ballots rather than violence.

When the results finally went in the direction of his uncle, Davido did not respond with the detached language of a celebrity watching events from a mansion somewhere in the world.

His reaction was deeply personal.

“We did it Unc.”

Three words.

But those three words said so much.

Unc.

Not Governor.

Not politician.

Not public official.

Unc.

Family.

The word stripped away the glamour, the celebrity, the political calculations and the enormous public profile.

For that moment, he was simply a nephew celebrating with his uncle.

Governor Ademola Adeleke reportedly responded emotionally during a call, asking Davido to come and give him a hug.

Every family needs a Davido.

Not necessarily a billionaire.

Not necessarily a celebrity.

Not necessarily somebody with millions of followers.

Every family needs someone who will say, “This is my family, and I will stand with them.”

Someone who will put down the sword when conflict becomes destructive.

Someone who will cross the room first.

Someone who will kneel before an elder.

Someone who will celebrate another person’s victory without jealousy.

Someone who will use influence to lift rather than destroy.

Someone who will remember where he came from after the world has celebrated where he has arrived.

So, to every family currently divided by bitterness, inheritance, misunderstanding, accusations, political differences or wounded pride, sheath the sword.

Enough.

Life is too short.

One day, the argument will no longer matter.

One day, the money will no longer matter.

One day, the political victory will become history.

What will remain is the family.

Call somebody.

Forgive somebody.

Embrace somebody.

Prostrate before an elder.

Withdraw the insult.

End the quarrel.

Let somebody’s victory become your joy.

Because family is not perfect people living together.

Family is imperfect people choosing, again and again, not to abandon one another.

As the family celebrates another important milestone, we extend our heartfelt wishes to the Governor and the entire Adeleke family.

May wisdom continue to guide every decision.

May peace continue to reign within the family.

May unity remain their greatest strength.

May success, progress, and prosperity continue to accompany the Governor and every member of the Adeleke family.

And may the story of this election ultimately become more than a political victory.

And may more families learn that true greatness is not measured by how far we rise, but by how many people we carry along as we rise.
