ATLANTA — Unbeaten boxing icon Claressa Shields added another monumental chapter to her legendary career on Saturday night, carving her name into the history books as the first Black woman to headline a major professional boxing event at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena.
Executing a dramatic physical transformation, the two-time Olympic gold medalist dropped three weight classes—shedding 38 pounds from a high of 198 down to the 160-pound middleweight limit for her first bout in the division since 2003. The grueling training camp and strict discipline immediately paid dividends.
Shields systematically broke down Australia’s unified champion Kaye Scott, culminating in a dominant technical knockout at 1:38 of the sixth round. With the victory, Shields reclaimed both the WBC and WBA unified female middleweight world titles, securing the 21st world championship belt of her illustrious career and stretching her flawless professional record to 19-0.
”I cut 38 pounds. I was at 198 pounds and got down to 160,” Shields reflected following the bout. “This is the most disciplined I’ve been since the Olympics, I feel like.”

Fighting in front of a star-studded crowd that included hip-hop royalty and boxing legends, Shields handled Scott’s early strength before turning up the offensive pressure. A devastating left hook in the sixth round sent Scott crashing backward into the ropes. Though the Australian champion beat the count, Shields unleashed a ferocious follow-up barrage that prompted Scott’s corner to throw in the towel.
Already an undisputed champion across multiple divisions, Shields signaled her intent to unify the middleweight division further, setting her sights on potential future showdowns as she continues to cement her status as one of the greatest pugilists in boxing history.
