PSC Lauds Police Professionalism as Adeleke Secures Osun Victory

​ABUJA — In the wake of the highly anticipated August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for an exemplary display of professionalism, orderliness, and inter-agency collaboration throughout the exercise.

​The commendation follows the conclusion of the off-cycle poll, which culminated in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaring incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party re-elected for a second term after a fierce contest against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

​Comprehensive Monitoring Across 30 LGAs

​Releasing its interim report on Sunday, the PSC disclosed that its extensive monitoring teams covered all 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) spanning the three senatorial districts: Osun Central, Osun East, and Osun West.

​According to the commission’s spokesman, Torty Njoku, the strategic deployment of security personnel proved instrumental in maintaining peace and order across the state’s polling units and collation centers. Key security metrics highlighted in the report include:

• ​Strategic Deployment: An average of four officers deployed per polling unit across the state.
• ​Senatorial Distribution: Osun Central recorded an average of three officers per polling unit, while Osun East and Osun West averaged five officers each.
• ​Joint Operations: Seamless integration and collaboration with sister security agencies at both the polling units and the Election Joint Operations Control Room.

​Robust Inter-Agency Synergy

​The commission noted that the success of the electoral security architecture was heavily anchored on effective cooperation between the police and various security and safety bodies.

​Complementary forces on the ground included personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Fire Service, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

​Other participating agencies involved in safeguarding the democratic process included the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA). The PSC observed that the harmonious working relationship among these forces significantly mitigated potential flashpoints and ensured a peaceful environment for voters.

​Leadership and Command Commended

​The leader of the PSC Monitoring Team, DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd.), expressed profound satisfaction with the overall conduct of the police personnel on duty, describing them as courteous, approachable, and responsive to public inquiries.

​Lakanu specifically praised the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for implementing a robust and effective election security strategy. He also lauded the operational leadership provided by DIG Isyaku Mohammed, who served as the Election DIG, and CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, the Election CP, alongside other senior officers deployed to oversee the poll.

​The commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining rigorous oversight over police conduct during electoral duties to ensure alignment with established professional standards.
