China Slams ‘Dangerous’ US Blockade of Iranian Ports

​Beijing — China on Tuesday issued a blistering condemnation of the United States’ maritime blockade of Iranian ports, labeling the move “dangerous and irresponsible” and warning that it could plunge the global order back into the “law of the jungle.”

​The diplomatic fallout comes as US President Donald Trump ordered the Navy to interdict vessels entering or leaving Iranian waters following the collapse of ceasefire negotiations in Islamabad. The blockade, which took effect Monday, has essentially locked down the Strait of Hormuz—a vital artery through which 20% of the world’s oil flows.

​During a high-profile meeting at the Great Hall of the People with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled a “four-point proposal” for Middle East stability. Xi emphasized that national sovereignty must be respected and called for a sustainable security architecture in the Gulf.

​”How a country treats international law reflects its sense of responsibility,” Xi told reporters, in a veiled jab at Washington’s unilateral military action. He later met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who echoed the sentiment, stating that China’s role is “important” in finding a diplomatic exit from the escalating conflict.

​Tariff Threats and Weapon Allegations

​The tension is not limited to the seas. The White House recently threatened to slap a 50% tariff on Chinese goods, alleging that Beijing is preparing to supply weapons to Tehran. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun dismissed these claims as “completely fabricated” smears designed to justify economic warfare.

​”If the US insists on using this as an excuse for additional tariffs, China will take resolute countermeasures,” Guo stated.

​Global Leaders Converge on Beijing

​Beijing has transformed into a diplomatic hub this week, welcoming a string of leaders including Vietnam’s To Lam and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The goal for these nations appears to be the formation of a unified front against the blockade, which analysts say is aimed at starving Iran of funds while pressuring China—the top buyer of Iranian crude—to intervene.
