IBAFO – The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two private security guards in connection with the brutal killing of a traveller along the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The suspects, 55-year-old Isikilu Dauda and Rasaki Abbas, were arrested following an alleged machete attack on a man identified simply as Promise. The incident, which has sparked outrage over the conduct of private security personnel, occurred in the Ibafo axis of the state.
The Fatal Encounter
According to a statement released on Monday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim arrived in the Ibafo area late on the night of Wednesday, April 9. It was during the early hours of Thursday, April 10, that the security guards allegedly accosted and attacked him.
Acting on a distress call at approximately 7:00 a.m., detectives from the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters arrived at the scene to find the victim severely injured.
“While en route to the hospital, the victim was still conscious enough to identify himself. He narrated how he had been attacked and macheted by the security guards after arriving in the area late the previous night,” Babaseyi stated.
Despite efforts to save his life, Promise was pronounced dead on arrival by the medical doctor on duty. His remains have since been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu for an autopsy.
Blood Trail Leads to Arrest
The breakthrough in the investigation came through forensic evidence at the scene. Police operatives reportedly discovered a trail of blood that led directly from the site of the attack to the location of one of the suspects.
This discovery led to the immediate arrest of Dauda, while his accomplice, Abbas, was picked up shortly after following sustained police efforts. Authorities are currently on the hunt for other fleeing accomplices believed to have been involved in the assault.
Zero Tolerance for Violence
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has condemned the killing in the strongest terms, describing it as an unacceptable act of violence. He has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution.
”All those involved in this heinous crime will be brought to justice,” Ojajuni assured, while urging residents and security outfits to operate within the ambit of the law.
