Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed profound grief over the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a leading Islamic scholar and Tijjaniyya leader, who passed away early Thursday, November 27, 2025, at age 102 in Bauchi. In a statement by media aide Mukhtar Gidado, the governor extended condolences from his family, the state government, and residents to the cleric’s family, students, followers, and the global Muslim community. Preparations advance for Friday’s funeral prayer, led by Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh, marking a significant loss for West African Islamic circles.
Born June 29, 1927, in Bauchi, Sheikh Dahiru memorized the Qur’an under his father and scholars like Sheikh Tijani Usman Zangon Bare-bari, later advancing under Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass. Recognized as a professor of Qur’anic memorization and a top mufassir, he established schools nurturing thousands who spread Islamic knowledge continent-wide. As deputy chairman of Nigeria’s Fatwa Committee and supreme Tijjaniyya leader, his teachings promoted peace, tolerance across faiths, and moral upliftment despite past sectarian tensions.
Mohammed hailed the sheikh as a beacon of faith, humility, and wisdom whose contributions shaped theology, jurisprudence, and society. The governor pledged state support for his institutions focused on Islamic education and community development, praying for Aljannatul Firdaus. This monumental departure leaves a void, yet his path of service to Allah endures for future generations.
