IBADAN, Oyo State — The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected drug dealer in the Apata area of Ibadan, recovering substances suspected to be Indian hemp and methamphetamine.
The suspect, identified as Rilwan ‘M’, was arrested on Friday, September 11, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m., following credible intelligence received by the Command.
The arrest followed targeted surveillance operations conducted by operatives of the Iyaganku Area Command.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, a quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, and other suspected dangerous drugs were recovered from the suspect.
The suspect is currently in police custody and cooperating with investigators as preliminary investigation continues.
The investigation is aimed at establishing the source of the suspected drugs, determining the extent of the suspect’s involvement in illicit drug trafficking, and identifying other persons who may be connected to the activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reiterated the Command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.
He described illicit drugs as a significant catalyst for various forms of crime and criminality, assuring that the Command would continue to disrupt the supply chains of criminal elements through proactive policing and intelligence gathering.
